Privacy Policy
Last updated: 10 July 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Amiboli (“Amiboli”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards your information when you use the Amiboli mobile application and related services (together, the “Service”). Amiboli is a language-learning app that teaches English through interactive stories and spoken conversation practice.
By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
a. Account & identity information
When you register, we collect your name and email address. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and Google account identifier from Google Sign-In. If you register with a password, we store it only in an irreversibly hashed form — we never store your password in plain text.
b. Voice recordings & speech data
The Service includes speaking-practice exercises. When you complete them, we record audio from your device’s microphone and process it as described in Section 2.
c. Learning & usage data
We collect information about how you use the Service — such as lessons and scenes you complete, scores and feedback on your speaking practice, in-app currency and rewards, streaks, and leaderboard standings — to deliver and personalize your learning experience.
d. Device & technical data
We automatically collect limited technical information such as device type, operating system, app version, and diagnostic or log data (including IP address) used to operate, secure, and troubleshoot the Service.
2. Voice Recordings & Microphone
The Service requests permission to access your microphone solely to enable speaking-practice features. Audio is captured only while you are actively using a speaking exercise — we do not record in the background or when the feature is not in use.
Your recordings are transmitted securely to our servers and to our speech-processing providers, where they are transcribed to text and analyzed to assess pronunciation and grammar and to generate feedback. Recordings and their transcripts may be stored to show your progress and history. We do not sell your voice recordings, and we do not use them for advertising.
You can revoke microphone access at any time in your device settings; note that speaking-practice features will not function without it.
3. How We Use Your Information
- Create and manage your account and authenticate you.
- Provide the core Service, including transcribing and evaluating your speaking practice and generating feedback.
- Track and personalize your learning progress, rewards, and leaderboards.
- Operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Service.
- Respond to your requests and provide customer support.
- Detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, and security issues.
- Comply with legal obligations.
4. Legal Bases for Processing
Where the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies, we rely on the following legal bases: performance of a contract (to provide the Service you request); consent (for microphone access and voice recordings, which you may withdraw at any time); legitimate interests (to secure and improve the Service); and legal obligation (to comply with applicable law).
6. Third-Party Service Providers
We use trusted third parties to operate the Service. Each processes only the data needed for its function and under its own privacy terms:
- Google Sign-In — authentication (name, email, account identifier).
- Speech-to-text providers — transcription of your voice recordings for speaking assessment.
- AI/language-model providers — analysis of transcribed text to generate grammar and pronunciation feedback.
- Cloud storage & hosting providers — secure storage of account data and audio files and hosting of our backend.
We share only what is necessary for these services to function, and we do not authorize them to use your data for their own advertising.
7. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. Voice recordings and transcripts are retained to power your progress history and may be deleted earlier on request. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period, except where retention is required to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements.
8. Data Security
We use appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption of data in transit (HTTPS/TLS), irreversible hashing of passwords, and restricted access to personal data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Your Rights & Choices
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, update, or delete your personal information; to object to or restrict certain processing; to withdraw consent; and to request a portable copy of your data. Residents of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and California (among others) may have additional rights under the GDPR and the CCPA/CPRA. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@amiboli.com. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.
10. Deleting Your Account & Data
You can permanently delete your account and associated personal data — including voice recordings and learning history — at any time from our account deletion page or the in-app account-deletion option. If you can’t sign in, email privacy@amiboli.com from the email address associated with your account. Once verified, we will delete or anonymize your data as described in Section 7.
11. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it. Where required by local law, a higher age of consent may apply.
12. International Data Transfers
Your information may be processed and stored on servers located outside your country of residence, where data-protection laws may differ. Where required, we put appropriate safeguards in place for such transfers.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you within the Service. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
14. Contact Us
If you have questions or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or your personal data, contact us at privacy@amiboli.com.
